Anxiety in our Current Crisis

By Samantha De Bono

Whilst we cannot completely eradicate our fears in times of crisis, we can work to understand how anxiety operates and how it affects us.  Anxiety can be useful even though it feels dreadful. It signals a problem and motivates us to solve it, so as long as we are able to get things in perspective, we can still help ourselves even when feeling anxious. We just have to learn how to do it.

Now is the time to turn towards each other, to help each other out. No man is an island, so avoid trying to go-it alone! Talking fears and anxieties through with somebody else is always helpful as long as that somebody is not going to make you feel worse in any way.

Remember, if you usually have counselling, don’t let it slip now that you’re likely to need it just as much, if not more. If you’ve never had counselling, now is a great time to join the club and get calm, collected  help from a qualified professional in the comfort of your own home through Skype or phone.

Let’s not let our mental health join the chaos that currently surrounds us.
